  18. Description of Working Group:
  19. The Integration of Internet Information Resources Working Group (IIIR)
  20. is chartered to facilitate interoperability between Internet
  21. Information Services, and to develop, specify, and align protocols
  22. designed to integrate the plethora of Internet information services
  23. (WAIS, ARCHIE, Prospero, etc.) into a single ``virtually unified
  24. information service'' (VUIS). Such protocols would include (but are not
  25. limited to) update protocols for distributed servers, a `query routing
  26. protocol' to pass queries between existing services, protocols for
  27. gateways between existing and future services, and standard exchange
  28. formats (perhaps based on Z39.50) for cross-listing specific
  29. information.

  31. Also, where necessary, IIIR will create technical documentation for
  32. protocols used for information services in the Internet.
  33.  
  34.  Goals and Milestones:

  36.   Ongoing Track emerging Internet information services in order to specify 
  37.           technical requirements for their integration into the VUIS.

  39.   Ongoing Liaise with other groups working on deployment and integration of 
  40.           Internet information services: e.g., The Coalition for Networked 
  41.           Information, RARE Working Group 3, etc.

  43.   Ongoing Create specifications for interoperability between Internet 
  44.           information systems.

  46.      Done Post an Internet Draft on 'A vision of integrated information 
  47.           resources'.

  49.    Jul 93 Post an Internet Draft on 'Taxonomy of Internet Information 
  50.           Services'.
